How can animal-assisted therapy benefit me?

Animal Assisted Therapy can benefit us on many different levels. To learn more about general benefits of animal-assisted therapy click here. AAT helps adults uniquely due to the life experiences and depth of relational and behaviors patterns. As adults, the brain is hardwired in such a way where many patterns have been well established and adults have had a lot of time to build defenses and know exactly what they want to share and don’t want to share.

Animals help lower some of the walls in which have been built to protect. Protection is the way in which we survive with the least amount of pain possible and consequently it also dulls joy and excitement for life as well. We often find ourselves in a vicious cycle of trying to avoid and dull pain and find joy and excitement. Animals can help create true joy and excitement in the work. They also allow adults to see their patterns to come into play through an animal’s non-judgmental response to different actions. Animals can also offer a consistent and emotional support for an adult who has never had the opportunity to be emotionally supported with out any ulterior motive.
