Lily

Cally — aka Lily, or Cally-lily — came to us in 2024 from a loving family she had spent her whole life with. She was donated because of medical issues that left her not able to do much. Her family wanted her to thrive where she was at and still have a job of some kind. She spent her life teaching children how to ride and being a western show horse. Lily integrated into the herd so quickly. She loves other horses and people.

Lily came in with a presence that brings peace, comfort, safety, and connection. People are drawn to her because she creates such a quiet and warm welcome. She truly loves working with kids and still holds a special place for adults. She is the horse that reminds people how to be gentle with themselves and others, open for connection, and quiet in their confidence.

Age

Lily was adopted by her previous family at about eight months old. They didn’t know her exact birthday; based on when they got her and how old she was, we gave her a day of celebration of July 7, 2010.

Care

Lily has navicular, a degenerative bone disease in the feet. In 2023 she had a palmar digital neurectomy — also known as being “nerved” — a procedure that cuts the nerve of the front feet to alleviate pain. That leaves her without feeling in her front feet. She needs yearly radiographs to make sure bone degeneration is not getting too detrimental, Osphos every six months to help slow it, Adequan shots every six months, daily Bute-less, and we save a little each month because she will eventually need to be nerved again. She also has arthritis in her neck and withers and would benefit from laser treatments.

Lily has magnetic boots we put on her fetlocks to help with circulation and pain. We try to get the red-light blanket to her a couple of times a month, and she enjoys the magnetic blanket from time to time.
